Shropshire Independent Advocacy Scheme

This scheme provides Advocacy Services throughout all communities within Shropshire.
It offers free, independent, confidential support and information.

As it is totally independent of all existing services, it can-

Discuss any issue and concerns that people have and help provide an informed choice
Help people to access their medical records
Help people with any complaints they have
Help people with medication and treatment issues
Provide information about services and help people access them
Contact solicitors if people wish
Refer people to other appropriate agencies
if they are unable to help
Attend court hearings

Whether in hospital or community, sometimes people feel intimidated by the involvement of all the professionals. People may feel that they cannot express their own needs, their own points of view.

The Independent Advocates stand with people always ensuring -
That particular individual's voice is heard
That particular individual's interests, needs and concerns are listened to.

The Independent Advocate's responsibility is to the individual needing help.
Not
to relatives, not to professionals and not to the statutory services.
SIAS works to a strict confidentiality policy.
