OSMAN
SHOULI
Senior Psychotherapist
Born in Galillee, Northern
Israel, I was brought up in my father's olive groves until the tensions
of the area moved us to South Lebanon as refugees. It was here, whilst
undertaking vacation work in a Psychiatric Hospital in Beirut, that
I first became interested in the care and humane treatment of mentally
ill people.
The memories of my work there fuelled my career as a mental health nurse
in Longrove Epsom in 1964 and resulted in my continuing passion for
the art of psychotherapy as a healing process. My journey with psychotherapy
began over 30 years ago and continues in my post as Senior Psychotherapist
within the Department.
I am a founder member of
the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy and member of the Association
of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Freudian and Independent Psychoanalytic
Psychotherapy, Child Psycho-therapy and Infant Observation and the work
of Melanie Klein. I have been a practising Psychotherapist for 27 years
both in the Mental Health Trust and in private practice and have also
taught psychotherapy and counselling since 1985 for mental health workers
and voluntary counselling organisations. I have the privilegeof continuing
to supervise psychotherapy practitioners and have a special interest
in psychoanalytic psycho-therapy, individual, group and marital therapy.
