Melanie Davies
Clinical Psychologist
Wroxeter Ward,
Shelton Hospital,
Bicton Heath,
Shrewsbury SY3 8DN
I am a Clinical Psychologist working part-time on Wroxeter Ward. Wroxeter
is a low-secure rehabilitation ward for men with complex mental health
problems. The primary focus of my work is on mental health rehabilitation
and recovery as part of a multi-disciplinary team. I am also working
in the wider Shropshire Rehabilitation Service while Rachel
Lucas is on maternity leave.
I studied Psychology (BSc.) at Leeds University from 1991 until 1994.
I subsequently took an Assistant Psychologist post to find out more
about what a Clinical Psychologist does and my interest grew from there.
I trained to become a Clinical Psychologist in South London with the
Salomons Clinical Psychology Training Scheme, qualifying in 2001. I
have since worked as a qualified Clinical Psychologist in various services
in Avon (Learning Disabilities/ Mental Health Rehabilitation and Recovery),
Wiltshire (Primary Care and Chronic Pain Services) and London (Mental
Health Rehabilitation and Recovery) before moving up to Shropshire.
Before moving to Wroxeter Ward, I worked at North Wrekin CMHT.
I offer a range of therapeutic approaches, but I have a particular interest
in systemic and community psychology ideas which allow me to try and
make sense of the problems people experience within their wider social,
cultural, historical and political contexts. I am currently undertaking
further training in family therapy and systemic practice. I am also
interested in organizational change, supervision and working with staff
teams.
