Voices Group
at the Dawley Centre, Telford
A pilot Hearing Voices Group has been developed within the Department
of Psychological
Therapies for Service Users living in the East of the County of Shropshire.
This group is being held at the Dawley
Centre, Telford
The group has
followed research-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) interventions.
Delivering CBT in this group format has been shown to improve individual
functioning
and self esteem in voice hearers as well as encouraging compliance with
homework tasks and sharing of coping mechanisms.
Aims of the Group
The aims of this group are that the members will experience :-
a reduction of persistent
positive symptoms
increased control
over their experiences and increased coping skills
increased knowledge
and understanding
improvement of self-image
decrease in feelings
of hopelessness
reduction in distress,
anxiety or depression caused by symptoms.
Future
Plans .
Later this year a similar Hearing Voices Group is planned for In-patient
Acute Services at Shelton Hospital.
Accessing
the Groups
Access to the groups is via GP or Mental Health Professional
referral
