I work with people in Shrewsbury
aged between 16 and 65, as part of a community mental health team. I
work part time alongside Guy
Holmes with whom I share an office.
I often offer a psychodynamic
form of therapy, but am also influenced by other therapeutic
approaches. I have a longstanding interest in staff welfare and previously
managed both the local Staff Counselling Service and Shropshire's GP
Counselling Service. At present I am available to provide counseling
and therapy as part of the Shropshire GP
counseling service
I am a commited supervisor
and provide clinical supervision both within the CMHT and the wider
department. I also provide supervision to junior doctors undertaking
psychotherapeutic work. I am a core member of the Trauma
Response Team, providing a support and debriefing service to staff
experiencing critical incidents at work. I am co facilitator with Tina
Griffiths of a training programme, on thinking
about therapeutic relationships, for junior doctors in psychiatry.
Working in a CMHT can be
very varied and I enjoy working with all kinds of people experiencing
all kinds of difficulties. My special interests include dissociation,
problems with eating, the effects of trauma and women's issues.
I qualified in 1990 from
the Newcastle upon Tyne Clinical Psychology (M.Sc) course, and
completed a further two year training course in psychodynamic psychotherapy
in 1993.
I came to Shropshire in 1995 after working in Teeside for the previous
five years.
I am supervised in a fortnightly peer supervision group facilitated
by Joe Kiff, Consultant
Clinical Psychologist in Dudley.
